Environmental Sustainability

A tremendous amount of resources goes into our homes. The building of homes generates over 50% of all waste in this country, we use over 150 litres per head per day in homes and much of the materials used to construct and refurbish homes are from unsustainable sources. In addition we use a great deal of resource in heating, cooking and running our homes. Much of this energy is wasted.
There are numerous ways of reducing this resource use – and housing associations, as the providers of two million homes in England, have the potential to do much to reduce the carbon footprint of social housing.
The winners
Three housing associations were presented with Gold Awrds for excellence for their work in environmental sustainability.
The following links provide further information on the exemplary associations, specifically about the work they have done, why they got involved, and the outcomes they have achieved, and how the winners can help other housing associations to invest in environmental sustainability.
